More extensive pruning, such as reducing the height and spread of the canopy, generally sits higher in the range.

If you have several trees needing pruning, the total cost won’t necessarily be double or triple the price of one tree. Working on them during the same visit can be more efficient, bringing the cost per tree down.

What affects tree pruning costs?
The biggest factor is what needs pruning, not simply how tall the tree is.
Removing a few problem limbs or carrying out a light thin can be much quicker than reducing the height and spread of the whole canopy. That’s why our price ranges overlap—a large tree needing minor work may cost less than a medium tree requiring extensive pruning.
Other factors include:
- Access: how easily we can reach the tree and get branches to the chipper.
- Nearby obstacles: houses, fences and gardens can mean branches need to be carefully lowered.
- Tree condition: damaged or weakened trees may require a different approach.
- Volume of material: more branches mean more handling, chipping and cleanup.
Trees near power lines need a separate assessment before work can be planned or priced.
How much does it cost to trim a small tree?
For a tree under 10 meters with easy access, our indicative range is $125–$450 plus GST. The price depends on whether it needs a few pruning cuts, some shaping or more extensive pruning.
One recent small-tree job took us under an hour, including cleanup. We reduced the height, balanced an uneven canopy, lightly thinned it and improved its structure.
Not every small tree is that straightforward, but improving its shape or sorting out troublesome branches doesn’t always need to be a major job.
How much does large tree pruning cost?
For trees over 15 metres, our indicative range is $400–$2,500 plus GST, assuming easy access and no nearby obstacles.
That’s a broad range because the work can vary so much. Removing a few selected branches is a very different job from working throughout a large canopy.
